چکیده

A major left-lateral strike-slip Mw7.7 earthquake occurred in the vicinity of Caribbean Sea on January 28, 2020. As a result, small-scale tsunami was generated. The properties seismogenic source were described using observational data gathered for and tsunami, as well information regional tectonic setting. simulated with COMCOT model Okada’s dislocation from finite fault solutions MW7.7 earthquakes published by United States Geological Survey. simulation results compared to tide gauge records validate whether seafloor’s vertical displacement generated caused tsunami. We conducted spectral analysis better understand characteristics records. showed that co-seismic could have contributed but anomalously large high-frequency waves recorded George Town 11 min after unrelated earthquake-generated According spectrum analysis, predominant period noticeable only two minutes earthquake. This indicates close station possible 150 km away station. These facts suggest submarine landslide comprehensive not solely seafloor deformation event an earthquake-triggered primary cause. Therefore, combined impact sources led

Fault parameters of the 1896 Sanriku Tsunami Earthquake estimated from Tsunami Numerical Modeling

The June 15, 1896 Sanriku earthquake generated devastating tsunamis with the maximum run-up of 25 m and caused the worst tsunami disaster in the history of Japan, despite its moderate surface wave magnitude (Ms=7.2) and weak seismic intensity. This is a typical tsunami earthquake, which generates anomalously larger tsunamis than expected from its seismic waves. Previously proposed mechanisms of...

A Numerical Investigation of Boumerdes-Zemmouri (Algeria) Earthquake and Tsunami

On May 21, 2003 Boumerdes-Zemmouri (Algeria) earthquake generated a small tsunami, which was recorded at several locations around the coast of Balearic Islands, Spain. Recent field studies (Meghraoui, et al., 2004) and teleseismic wave analysis (Yiga, 2003) indicated that the earthquake magnitude is stronger than that suggested by the Harvard CMT solution. Moreover, the seafloor displacement is...

Detailed analysis of tsunami waveforms generated by the 1946 Aleutian tsunami earthquake

The 1946 Aleutian earthquake was a typical tsunami earthquake which generated abnormally larger tsunami than expected from its seismic waves. Previously, Johnson and Satake (1997) estimated the fault model of this earthquake using the tsunami waveforms observed at tide gauges. However, they did not model the second pulse of the tsunami at Honolulu although that was much larger than the first pu...

Lessons learned from the Japan earthquake and tsunami, 2011.

On March 11, 2011, an earthquake occurred off the coast of Honshu, Japan. The quake was followed by a powerful tsunami that caused extensive damage to the east coast of the Tohoku and Kanto regions. This disaster destroyed the medical system in place and thus drastically reduced the ability of the healthcare system to handle the large number of casualties. During the initial response to this di...

Computational Earthquake and Tsunami Research

U nderstanding and mitigating the effects of disasters requires the integration of research and practice in multiple science, engineering, technology, and social science fields to create a world that’s more resilient in terms of public safety, economic strength, and collective welfare. The January/February 2011 issue of CiSE explored hurricane prediction.1 Hurricanes are one of many natural dis...
